We were walking down the slopes of Upper Ganjeipadar village in Kotia panchayat of Koraput district around Noon today that we saw a young tribal woman drying paddy infront of her little house . Her father-in-law was sitting in the veranda . I asked if it was a traditional seed . She said “yes it was a traditional variety : Kajakoli and was preserved for generations by our family . We use compost for this seed while use some chemicals for the seeds we buy from the market ” . I asked if they were in need of any support from the government . Her father-in-law said ” we have very little land and are happy with what we got so far . Dont know if my grandchildren would own more land somewhere else and may be in need of some assistance . We are happy now ! ” I bowed down before this elderly person for being happy even in such a hard terrain under such a challenging life in the sloppy land of Kotia .
